The article examines the place and role of the human right to security in the system of values of modern postmodern society. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that the right to security is one of the fundamental human rights, the content of which is quite broad and multifaceted. The right to security is not only a specific legal category, but also an important social value that reflects a certain level of development of society and its ability to ensure a decent existence for a person. The research methodology is based on the use of a wide range of general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization), as well as special methods of legal science: formal-legal, historical-legal and comparative-legal. In general, if we talk about security from a methodological perspective, we should bear in mind that it is a complex and interdisciplinary object of research, which determines a wide range of methodological tools. Such an approach makes it possible not only to describe individual aspects of security, but to understand it as a deep cultural phenomenon that is in a state of fundamental transformation together with the value foundations of postmodern society. It is found that the right to security is a complex, multidimensional right-guarantee that creates the necessary conditions for the implementation of other human rights and freedoms. The evolution of the concept of security from the traditional state-centric approach to the concept of “human security” is analyzed, which puts the individual, the person as a person, at the center of attention. It is substantiated that in modern conditions the right to security integrates both the “negative” aspect (prohibition of harm by the state) and the “positive” duty of the state to create conditions for a safe existence. It is established that the axiological basis of the right to security is such values as dignity, freedom, justice and solidarity. It is concluded that the right to security performs the function of a system-forming value, being the foundation for the functioning of the social state and the legal organization of society as a whole.
